Garden talk

Today is so wonderfully warm, we officially begun the season by hanging the laundry outside, I can never get enough of that fantastic smell the laundry has when it dries out in the sun, Ahhhhh.....I hope we never have to use the dryer again until next fall!

Jonathan (my 17 year old) and I spent all afternoon in the garden yesterday planting pots with herbs and flowers, tomorrow we will finish the kitchen garden, I learned a lot from last years experience and will dedicate a separate patch for the tomatoes and bean tepee this year, last year they grew so big they completely took over!

Here is a photo of last year lettuce crop:

I also covered the outdoor table with a bright orange piece of oilcloth and it is now our favorite place to sit:

and finally I made a few more of the Garden totes for my shop and noticed how similar it is to one of my favorite paintings by my mother:

Sunday

Here in Vermont once Halloween is over you begin to feel winter in the air. We woke up this morning to a chilly 32F (oC), clear blue skies and piles and piles of leaves to rake,we did some yesterday and today thanks to my sweet son Jonathan who cleared the whole back
lawn making these little Andy Goldsworthy piles

we are now leaf free...

I made him a super special Jonathan sandwich:
Whole grain bread
Dijon mustard
Cabot cheddar cheese (Hunter's favorite)
Tomato (the last from the garden turning red in a brown paper bag...)
Alfalfa sprouts
Thin 2 egg omelet
Chili peppers

it was gone in 2 seconds...

one of my favorite scenes of all times is the whole neighborhood out raking their lawns. With snow just around the corner I changed all the bed linens to flannel, we switched the screen windows to glass and rearranged the wood pile bringing a few logs in for the fire place, Ah the sweet smell of a fire burning...Can you tell I love winter???

Here in my studio things are cooking up for the holiday season, I made a new Dreamcatcher with lovely holiday colors but I kept it simple so it can be used all year round

I love it when the rooms are all dust free, aired out and sparkling....I totally cleared out the boys room ,turned over their closets and folded everything perfectly,to bad it's going to last about 2 minutes...ha!never mind as long as I feel good, that's whats important right? right!
The weather is so perfect I could actually open all the doors and windows for the first time this year, can you believe it? it's May!!!

The garden

Today I woke up and Ronen was in the living room doing his Yoga/Meditation bit, I was so happy to see him there, I hate waking up with out him, I suddenly realized that I  get  in a  total survival mode when he is away, having to deal with everything on my own ,not easy ah,but his is back, joy.

It was so warm today, suddenly I could feel a summer breeze and realized it will be coming after all. we worked in the garden for a few hours, cleaned the flower beds in the front garden, clipped down some dry perennials from last year making way for new growth and decided where  to plant some lovely hollyhock and peony bulbs I bought, at the end of the day everything looked so clean and ready to grow.
Tomorrow we move to the back yard, a lot more work there and this year we are building raised beds and will grow vegetables! i am so exciting about it, I have been dreaming about a vegetable garden forever, my grandparents had 2 beautiful vegetable patches In there Long Island summer house, one was just for herbs and they were giant, till this day when my sister and I smell basil we think of our summers there... the other was a vegetables patch , but all i remember from that were the wonderful potatoes my grandfather grew, we also had fruit trees, mainly plums, peaches, pears and apples, and a beautiful rose patch, oh how I miss that house....and how I miss them...
Anyway, I have it all planned out, I will grow flowers and herbs and vegetables all mixed in. I hope this works it's our first try this year...

Today I took some pictures of my beautiful Tana Lawn (Liberty of London) fabric collection, I still haven't decided what to do with them, so I put them on the shelf and look at them all the time, they are small 1/4 yard pieces, I am sure I will think of something at some point. also working on tiny little pretty zipperedImg_68841_2 coin purses, and made 10 NEW fabric pins with ribbons to put on Etsy and hopefully also sell in the Bazaar.
more tomorrow,
Tamar
